1987 Ford Capri 280 Brooklands

And so the end of a legend, the 280 Capri was the run-out model and featured a limited slip differential, full leather Recaro interior and 15 inch versions of the seven spoke 13 inch wheels fitted to the superseded Capri Injection Special. Ford originally intended to make 500 turbo charged vehicles (by Turbo Technics) complete with gold alloy wheels and name it the Capri 500 but a change of production planning meant a name change to Capri 280 as the cars were simply the last models ran down the production line. A total of 1,038 Capri 280s were built. Contrary to some reports these cars were not called "Capri 280 Brooklands", the latter name of the famous Surrey race track only being applied to the paint colour rather than the car itself.

To say this Capri is unique is something of an understatement, it's the ultimate evolution of one of the UKs favourite sports cars of all time, and certainly one of the most thrilling to drive to. D280 YRN has been owned by the same family from new, passing from Uncle to Nephew. The mileage of 47000 is warranted and is supported by 18 previous MOT certificates along with the original Sales invoice from C D Bramell of Warrington from back in 1987.

The Brooklands green body work is in stunning condition. The Capris architecture would easily show any inconsistences, but panel gaps are even, shut lines are narrow and overall fit is truly amazing. Bonnet, doors and tailgate all open without creeks or sagging.

Internally the full grey leather Recaro interior is in excellent condition throughout, retaining its suppleness and colour, the stitching and seams are even and tightly bound. The dash is pure Capri dominated by the rev counter and speedo, all gauges work correctly and all sit at normal operating temperatures, it really is nigh on 100 per cent.

Turn the ignition key and the Cologne V6 bursts into life and quickly settles into a gentle burble, on the move there's ample performance, the power delivery is smooth throughout the rev range, it's all standard and just as it left the factory, there are no ominous noises emanating from the engine, gearbox or back axle meaning this is a properly sorted Capri.

Finding another 280 Capri like this won't be easy. This example ticks all the right boxes; condition, mileage, low ownership, history and is sold with a new MOT. This is the Capri with the most collectability potential and has to be one of the best available.
