DESCRIPTION

Just 500 extra special examples of the 150mph Ford Sierra RS 500 Cosworth went on sale in Britain on August 1st 1987. This more powerful 'Evolution' model was introduced to allow Ford to develop the original production run of 5,000 needed to allow the Sierra RS Cosworth to be homologated for International Touring Car Racing in the Group A class.Aston Martin at Tickford were assigned to convert the 500 cars. Work included upgrading engines to 224bhp (with the potential to exceed 400bhp with extra boost in race trim), numerous aerodynamic enhancements including a 30mm lip spoiler applied directly to the rear edge of the tailgate to increase rear downforce. New and larger cooling ducts for both the brakes and the engine intercooler were added at the front in addition to a larger and more effective chin spoiler, known as a ""splitter". The car was only available through 90 nominated RS specialist dealers and was sold for the price of £19,950.

This stunning example, build number 468, was delivered via Route One Ford to its first owner in Manchester on the 19th November 1987. Showing a mere 13,961mls at the time of cataloguing, the car has been fastidiously maintained throughout its life as can be seen in the car's extensive history file and also in its original fully stamped service manual which quite literally has been filled to the point where no more stamps can be added!

It remained with its first owner until 6th April 1992 when it was sold to its second custodian who kept the car for a further 10 years, and in a similar fashion to his predecessor the car was annually serviced and well maintained but seldom used until its eventual sale in 2002.

The third owner kept the car for a very brief period before selling it May 2002, and its fourth owner, in common with the first three, kept the car serviced and MoT'd but used it lightly. It remained in his care until a prominent RS Ford collector then purchased it in 2010 and garaged it alongside his other RS models and there it remained, as a show piece in his collection, before being purchased by our vendor, another Fast Ford enthusiast, who added the car to his significant collection.

Presented with a most comprehensive history file containing original RS500 sales paraphernalia, Service booklet, past MoTs and tax discs, along with various invoices and Bills of Sale. Cars of the Eighties and Nineties are becoming increasingly sought after and are some of the fastest rising classics in the current market, and the appetite for well kept low volume Fords in particular shows no sign of abating. Now offered for sale once again this sparkling, low mileage Cosworth RS500 is an absolute must for the astute collector.
