1989 Porsche 911 Carrera Club Sport

When the 1988 model year 911 was launched in September 1987, Porsche also introduced a lightweight high performance version aimed at the firm's hard core customers. No doubt inspired by the legendary 2.7 RS of 1972 this new Coupe-only car was the first to adopt Porsche's now revered Club Sport designation. The CS was a stripped out version of the 3.2, made some 100kg lighter than most by stripping out non-essentials like the rear seats, sound deadening, electric windows, and even the passenger's sun visor. The engine revs more freely, and 300rpm higher, thanks to lightweight inlet valves and a reprogrammed ECU. Just 340 examples were made, and only 53 of those were in right-hand-drive for the UK market. Available in the UK in any colour you like, as long as what you like is Grand Prix White with red wheel centres.

Unsurprisingly with more power and 38kg less weight to lug around the Club Sport instantly became the quickest normally aspirated 911 available with 0-60mph requiring a mere 5.1 seconds whilst top speed rose to 156mph. Transmission featured revised 4th and 5th gear ratios and a limited slip differential. Bilstein sports suspension was specified and Fuchs alloy wheels, 7 front and 8 rear.

This exceptional 911 Club Sport was supplied new by AFN Guildford in October 1988. It has covered fewer than 60,000 miles from new, which is supported by every MoT certificate and the original service book showing official stamps to 16100 miles in 1991 followed by marque specialists since. The history file also includes a host of bills from 1990 up to the last service in October 2010 and further benefits from the recent fitment of a 2.7RS stainless steel exhaust.The generous and complete history includes an invoice for paintwork and repairs to screen corners carried out by Autofarm in June 2000 at a cost of £2,107. Invoices explain that the bumper, bonnet, front wings and screen were removed for this work to be carried out correctly and to a high standard. The result is perfect and the car has no unsightly evidence of paintwork having been applied.

With just five owners in the cars life, and one of these for more than 17 years, this car is reported to drive fantastically and really has benefitted from such considered use by enthusiastic owners. We would question whether or not a more honest and pleasing Club Sport with such a comprehensive history exists. The original steering wheel is also now fitted to the car and is in excellent condition equal to the rest of the vehicle.
