Ferrari owners are often fastidious but this car has really been cared for
The Ferrari 348 series marked a radical departure in the way Maranello constructed its cars, replacing as they did a chassis of traditional steel tubes with a much stiffer monocoque structure with a tubular rear subframe. Suspension remained independent front and rear with wishbones, springs, telescopic shocks, anti-roll bars, and revised geometry. The ventilated disc brakes were much larger than those of its predecessor, the Ferrari 328, and used anti-lock technology. A midship-mounted V8 returned, but it was larger and more powerful displacing 3405cc, mounted longitudinally and mated to a transverse gearbox. The displacement accounted for the new car's Ferrari 348 designation. The suffix TB came from the transverse gearbox and closed 'Berlinetta' body style. A higher compression ratio and updated fuel injection helped generate 300 horsepower, 30-40 more than the Ferrari 328, whilst a dry-sump oiling system gave the new Ferrari a lower centre of gravity. The 348 was the last design under the supervision of legendary chief stylist Leonardo Fioravanti, and a lot of the styling cues came from the Testarossa, particularly the side strakes, however, its forms were softer than those of the 328 but still curvaceous and with a longer wheelbase and wider track the interior had a bit more space.
This very smart, left-hand drive Ferrari 348 TB was supplied new to a Herr Helmut Mander in Germany in 1990. Finished in Rosso with a black leather interior, the car was imported to the UK in 1998, when it had covered 23,219 km, by a Mr R. Derham of Earsham, who immediately sent it to respected marque specialists Italia Autosport where it received a full major service including a new cambelt generating an invoice totalling over £3,000. In August 2006, whilst in the ownership of a Mr D.Tempest, the speedometer was changed from a kilometre unit to a new Ferrari mph unit and the details of this head change are contained in an invoice from Pennine Automotive Engineering showing the car had at that time covered 40,378km.
Our vendor purchased this Ferrari in June 2015 and sent it to trusted marque specialists QV London for a new cambelt and full service. Since then it has only been used in fair weather and totally pampered by our vendor. Now reading 2,478 miles on the odometer, giving a total mileage of 27,567 miles, the condition of the car would suggest this to be correct.
Supplied with its leather book pack containing all the relevant literature, original tools, its German Fahrzeugbrief and TUV documents, and arriving at the sale with a fresh MOT, this sharp 348 TB is attractively estimated and is an excellent example of a model that is now getting the attention it deserves.
