1993 Mercedes W124 E500

The Merceds Benz W124 500E was known as perhaps the ultimate undercover performance car and the 'Wolf in Sheep's Clothing' by the press of the day. The Mercedes-Benz W124 was a supercar in every sense of the word, manufactured in collaboration with Porsche-AG from 1991-1995.

The vehicle is based on the W124 chassis, which is widely regarded by many as one of the best ever made by Mercedes Benz, although the 500E was a completely different animal to all of its stable mates. Just over 10,000 vehicles were built, all of them LHD, they were put together by hand and took up to 18 days to complete, and they were transported back and forth between the Mercedes plant and Porsche's Rössle-Bau plant in Germany. On all 500E,s the only hint that something is different is the very subtle flared arches and even with its lower aggressive stance it is easy to mistake it for any of its lesser brethren.

The M119 5.0L V8 developed 326 BHP and was actually derived from the R129 SL range of the day but incorporated a Jetronic ignition system resulting in an engine that could propel this car from 0-60mph of 5.5 seconds and had a top speed of 160 mph. To harness this powerhouse the braking system was also uprated again taking components from the SL range with both bigger brake discs and 4 piston callipers. Because of its looks, rarity, hand built construction and its sledge hammer performance the 500 E is already considered by many the ultimate Q Car.

This particular example finished in Brilliant Silver with contrasting black leather was first registered in the UK in June of 1994 and has only had two owners from new. There is a full service history with the car which is made up of Mercedes Benz main dealers and Mercedes independent specialists. The specification of this vehicle includes: full black individual leather interior with heated front seats, front arm rest, A/S/R, auto dip mirrors, walnut wood and air conditioning. There is a large history file of bills, old MOTs and various other documentation that give this vehicle superb provenance.
