SUMMARY

Classically presented in Guards Red, this 1993 model year 964 RS was originally supplied by Porsche-Zentrum Munich.

DESCRIPTION

The 911 Carrera RS 3.6 was introduced by Porsche in 1992 and was developed specifically for the European market as a track-ready lightweight version of the Carrera 2. Whilst the RS did not look much different from the other 911 models on sale, Porsche engineers utilised the simple and time-honoured motorsports philosophy of 'reduce weight and add power' to produce the most dynamic 911 since the original Carrera RS in 1973.

Porsche went to great lengths to reduce the weight of the 964 RS by nearly 175kg. Aluminium was used for the doors and bonnet and thinner glass was used for the side and rear windows. Inside, Porsche disposed of the 911's usual luxuries, including its rear seats, power windows, electronically adjustable front seats and front armrests, choosing also to forgo the power steering, resulting in greater steering interaction and feedback for the driver. Thanks to the use of a lightweight single-mass flywheel, the Carrera RS received a healthy boost in power up to 260bhp and lowered suspension and uprated brakes served to confirm the car's sporting intent. With its narrow body and lack of rear spoiler, the elegant and powerful Type 964 is amongst the most sought after modern non-turbocharged 911 variants. Excluding the lower-specification 'RS America' for the United States market and RSR variants, only 2,051 examples of the Type 964 Carrera RS were built and consequently they are now rare.

Rolling off the Zuffenhausen production line in October 1992, finished in gleaming Guards Red over black and grey leather, this beautiful RS was a home-market car (C00) travelling only a few hundred kilometres to Porsche-Zentrum Munich and onwards to its first owner.

Illustrating diligent ownership, the car is accompanied by its original owners manuals and a service book that contains 30 service stamps over its career. The remarkably comprehensive history file contains a complete timeline of ownership and mechanical work and even includes its 'Fahrzeugbrief' covering TUV testing until its arrival in the UK in 2002. The import was professionally handled by its new owner and included sourcing a Certificate of Conformity issued by Porsche GB in 2002 and still on file. Up until 2024, it has had just three UK owners, the most recent for nearly 20 years, including taking the RS to Dubai with him for nine years.

It's been fastidiously maintained and serviced over the years and the file contains numerous invoices and records of maintenance and notes a top-end rebuild at 104,850km. The maintenance record is just too detailed to list here but we invite potential purchasers to spend some time with this impressive file at our Documents Desk. Most recent 2023 expenditure was with Autofarm who have had input since 2014 and a glass-out repaint by Southam Bodies.

The 964 is arguably the 911 that most faithfully combined modernity with the classic elements that made the car famous and the Renn Sport was the pinnacle of the model’s road-car development. Revered for its totally analogue driving experience, clean unbespoilered looks and enhanced by the RS lightweight ethos, this is a seriously visceral 911.

This well cared for, beautifully presented example drives exactly as it should and we invite and encourage your inspection at our Supercar Fest sale to fully appreciate the quality on offer.
