1995 Ferrari F355 Challenge

Following the success of the Ferrari 348 Challenge, the 355 Challenge was launched in 1995 as a "one make' race series based upon the original 355 road car. Cars left the factory in either the full Challenge specification or were uprated with the official upgrade kit. The series proved to be very popular. The challenge cars were developed by Ferrari F1 test driver Nicola Larini and they share the same dimensions and track with their road going cousins. The major visible differences being the fitment of a rear wing, roll cage and a fire extinguisher. More subtle upgrades included competition brakes, competition exhaust, stiffer suspension, less weight due to the removal of interior trim and a slightly more powerful engine due to the sports exhaust. The race cars were identical in specification in order to make driver talent more important than the size of your wallet. Engines were sealed so expensive modifications were prohibited ensuring a level playing field. Only 72 cars were built new by the factory, 13 of which were right-hand drive and another 100 or so were fitted with Ferrari's after-market upgrade kit.

This particular left-hand drive F355 was manufactured in 1995 and is an original factory built Challenge car. This can be identified by the huge Brembo brakes, slate grey Speedline wheels, racing fuel system and interior indents designated for a roll cage. Finished in the extremely rare colour of Rosso Rubino with black leather interior, this 355 Challenge has covered a believed genuine 17,353 kilometres. Supplied with its original service booklet and leather wallet, this car was delivered new to Geneva via approved dealer A.B Cars S.r.l.

Buyers should be aware that this lot has formed part of a large private collection and has been stood for some time in a heated environment, as such, some remedial works may be required. A light service has just been carried out by racing specialists Terry Keys Motorsport and a mechanical report from Terry Keys will be supplied in the history file at the auction.

The Ferrari 355 challenge is one of the most desirable and interesting models to be produced in Maranello over the last 25 years and this example undoubtedly represents a rare and appreciating asset in today's market.
