SUMMARY

Right-hand drive JDM Nissan Skyline R33 GT-R, sympathetically modified but remaining largely unmolested.

DESCRIPTION

Following up on its widely celebrated R32 predecessor, the arrival of Nissan’s R33-generation Skyline GT-R in 1995 played a big part in the model’s eventual long-term success. Just prior to its release, several major Japanese auto manufacturers signed a panic-induced 'gentlemen’s agreement' with the government, limiting new model performance rating figures to 276bhp. There had, perhaps, never been a more inauspicious moment to release a sports car in Japan. Nissan, for its part, printed official marketing materials for the R33 which did not mention that the engine delivered approximately 300bhp straight from the showroom floor.

The R33 nevertheless debuted at an optimal moment in popular culture. Video games such as Gran Turismo popularized the Skyline and other Japanese performance cars of the era even in the US and other envious markets where the GT-R was not be sold. It perpetuated the Skyline GT-R’s nickname, 'Godzilla, the monster from Japan', earned by the R32 after stellar performances in early 1990s Australian motorsport, as car enthusiasts embraced Nissan as a force to be reckoned with. Indeed, the R33 would make appearances in the first few Fast & Furious films of the 2000s, and its R34 successor was notably driven by the late Paul Walker, further publicizing the Skyline GT-R name.

Finished in Motorsport White with a grey interior, this superb R33 GT-R has been sympathetically modified but remains largely unmolested throughout with an impressive cockpit area enhanced by a carbon fibre pack and a well detailed engine bay should the show arena beckon. Mechanically, it still wears the original turbos on factory settings running through equal-length downpipes supplied by RHD Japan, fitted in 2020 with unspent gases exiting through a Blitz Nur Spec exhaust system. Recently serviced, the Skyline is running and performing well and it is clear to see that it has been maintained as required over the years by its fastidious custodians including general services and cam belt changes being adhered to as and when required.

Other works carried out over the years are detailed in the comprehensive history file that accompanies the car. Currently running on a set of Enkei RFPi alloy wheels fitted with Yokohama Advance AD08 tyres, the Nissan presents extremely well and with the JDM market moving on at a pace, your early inspection is welcomed and encouraged to fully appreciate the quality of this increasingly desirable Skyline.
