SUMMARY
Just arrived from long term ownership in Sweden, this Type-R (Version 3) is a very well cared-for example of a rare model.
DESCRIPTION
- The Impreza WRX STI Type-R was introduced to the Japanese Domestic Market in January 1997. Utilising the two-door bodyshell, it had several features aimed directly at homologation for rallying and this is the model that Prodrive used for its 'Group N' customer cars and was also the donor vehicle for the 'Group A' WRC in 1997, 1998, 1999 and 2000
- The two-door body is slightly stronger/stiffer than the four-door RA and a solid rear bulkhead increased torsional stiffness even further
- Apart from the bodyshell, differences between the Type-R and the JDM four-door STi models included a short-ratio gearbox, an adjustable Electromechanical Centre Differential (DCCD), the absence of ABS, Intercooler water spray, two opposed pistons on the rear brake calipers (instead of four) and some cosmetic differences like rear tinted glass, a radio/aerial delete, and the 555 SWRT seats (one year only)
- This Impreza Type-R (Version 3) was exported from the UK to Sweden in 2009 and has just arrived back having been imported by its owner of eight years in Sweden
- It was built on 25/03/1997, finished in Sonic Blue and is car number #691/1371 and 285/621 in Sonic Blue
- Powered by its original 2-litre EJ20K with a VF23 turbo, the engine was subject to a rebuild in 2014 by JOB-parts (in Sweden) and is now running at circa 300bhp
- External upgrades include updated (Version 5) bumpers and spoiler and the addition of a P1-style lip to the front. It currently sits on König Hypergram 17” / 8J wheels in bronze though the original Subaru 16” in gold are included
- The list of modifications, maintenance and upgrades etc. on this fabulous Impreza are listed in the Condition Report. We encourage your inspection of this special Subaru
- Will be UK-registered by the time of the sale
