DESCRIPTION

Founded in 1977 by Sir Frank Williams and Sir Patrick Head, Williams Grand Prix Engineering Ltd. are a successful Formula One motor racing team and constructor. Winners of nine Formula One constructors championships and seven drivers championships their track record speaks for itself.

Between 1995 and 1999 Williams designed, built and ran the works Renault Laguna entries in the British Touring Car Championship. Things started well, with the team taking the manufacturer's championship in their first year 1995, although 1997 was their best season by far, when they took 15 out of the 24 races and both the drivers and manufacturer's championships. Those were heady days when most of the cars on the grid cost over £1m to build and budgets of £3-5m to run each car for a season were not uncommon. Of all the manufacturer built cars in this period - it was the Williams Renault that was the most highly regarded.

This car, chassis no.99/04, was the last ever chassis built and was prepared for ex F1 driver, Jean-Christophe Bouillon, to race alongside multiple champion, Jason Plato for the 1999 season. Nescafe were the main sponsors, and the cars were both distinctive and quick. Jason Plato secured an outright win for them during the '99 season, but ultimately Renault had decided to switch their focus back to Formula One and consequently pulled out at the end of the year.

Currently, this car is a highly competitive entrant in the HSCC Super Touring Car championship and runs against similar period cars from Vauxhall, Peugeot, Nissan and Ford. Scoring regular podium finishes in 2014/15 the car is offered ready to race, some guidance in running the car will be freely available and a small spares package consisting of 2 front wishbones, 8 wheels, numerous gear ratios, 4 front and 2 rear brake discs, 2 front splitter skid plates, various steering rack shims and a ballast tray. This is a significant and rare car to own and race today.
