DESCRIPTION
Background:
The BMW E38 7 Series, a quintessential luxury sedan, represents one of the most celebrated chapters in BMW's history. Introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1994, the E38 debuted as the third generation of the 7 Series, succeeding the E32. It remained in production from 1994 to 2001, epitomising the brand's dedication to engineering excellence and opulent design. As a flagship model, it seamlessly blended cutting-edge technology, refined comfort, and dynamic performance, making it a benchmark in the luxury automotive segment of its era.
The 740i, a standout model within the E38 lineup, gained particular acclaim for its balance of performance and sophistication. Powered by BMW’s M60 and later M62 4-litre V8 engines, it delivered smooth power delivery, robust torque and a characteristically sonorous exhaust note. This version catered to drivers seeking a harmonious blend of spirited driving dynamics and executive level luxury. The E38 740i offered innovations such as GPS navigation, double-glazed windows and even optional TV screens, cementing its place as a technological pioneer of the 1990s.
The Car:
The E38 7 Series on offer here, being a 2001 model, is one of the last E38s to be produced. Recently imported from Japan, this BMW 740i Sport is an exceptional example of a luxury performance saloon. Powered by a 4.4-litre V8 engine paired with a smooth 5-speed automatic gearbox, it delivers effortless power and refined driving dynamics, perfectly suited to both spirited driving and long-distance cruising.
This particular example is in totally original condition, with all its original body panels and paintwork intact. Having been driven on Japan's salt-free roads, its overall preservation is outstanding. It runs and drives superbly, with Bridgestone tyres fitted all around and there are no dashboard faults, with everything working as it should. Although an import, it has been equipped with European-spec features, including full-size front and rear number plate plinths and an MPH speedo face.
Equipped with the desirable M Sport package, the car features M Sport suspension, an M Sport steering wheel with multi-function controls, the iconic parallel-spoke sport wheels and a stylish half-leather/Alcantara interior complemented by anthracite headlining. Adding to its appeal, it boasts a high level of advanced multimedia features, including an onboard monitor with TV functionality, a navigation system and a multi-speaker sound system with a six-disc CD changer. Exceptionally well-maintained and presented, the car currently shows just under 113,000km (approximately 70,000 miles) on the odometer and comes with a comprehensive service history, highlighting its careful upkeep over the years.
