SUMMARY
A lovely, original, low-mileage BMW Z3 roadster with a full service history.
DESCRIPTION
Background:
BMW’s Z3 was launched in 1995, the company’s first volume roadster. Based on a shortened version of the E36 3 Series platform, with rear semi-trailing arm suspension from the E30, the first of BMWs Z cars was initially offered only as a roadster, powered by four-cylinder engines from the 3 Series range. Six-cylinder engines were introduced into the range in 1996.
Building on the sweet-handling chassi of the 3 Series, the Z cars quickly drew praise for their composure and driving manners while the kerb-appeal of the sophisticated and modern styling wooed further buyers, making the range a sales success.
A facelift in 1999 ushered in different engine options, interior and exterior styling changes to more closely relate to the 3 Series plus changes under the skin to match the track of the saloons and introduce enhanced electronic stability controls. Side airbags and a new three-layer insulated roof added to the safety and comfort of the Z3.
Missiles behind the headlights, an ejector seat and a number of other ‘options’ offered to James Bond by Q Division for the film GoldenEye were not made available on more normal road models!
The car:
This beautiful Z3 looks every inch the capable roadster, with grey metallic coachwork in fine condition, sitting on 5-spoke alloys with excellent Avon tyres. With its 170bhp 24-valve 2.2-litre six-cylinder motor mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, the manufacturer’s figures state that this roadster should reach 60mph in around 7.6 seconds, with a top speed of 139mph.
Lower the black manually-operated mohair soft top and settle into the heated seats in the immaculate two-tone deep red and black leather interior, select your choice of driving music on the original BMW RDS radio/cassette or 6-disc BMW CD changer, grasp the M-Sport leather wheel, snick it into gear with the M-Sport gear knob and you’re ready to enjoy the best of soft top motoring, safe from buffeting thanks to the wind diffuser between the twin roll hoops.
Originally sold new in January 2001 in Jersey, this Z3 has covered just 35,385 miles and is ULEZ-compliant and HPI clear. It comes with four keys, the original dealer manuals pack, fresh MOT, VOSA history print out, V5, a fully stamped-up original service book and a file of sundry service invoices as well as its original jack and tools plus a recently fitted battery.
Summary:
This exceptionally nice Z3 offers the new owner plenty of scope for enjoyment, whatever the weather. Low-mileage examples of this appreciating modern classic don’t come up very often and rarely in this condition. This is one of the best.
