SUMMARY
A low-mileage Ferrari 360 Spider 6-speed manual, with full Ferrari service history and fresh from long-term ownership.
DESCRIPTION
Background:
Launched in 1999, Ferrari’s 360 faced the stiff task of following the F355, a model praised for its handling poise and performance, but the new car immediately proved itself a more than worthy successor. Featuring an all-aluminium space-frame chassis that was both 40% stiffer and 28% lighter than its predecessor’s steel form, despite being 10% bigger overall, this was truly a Ferrari for the new Millenium.
The organic styling by Goran Popovič at Pininfarina heralded a new era for Ferrari, eschewing the previous decade’s sharp angles, while also introducing a new 3.6-litre V8 engine, featuring titanium con-rods and a flat-plane crank, giving it a very distinctive bark. 400PS (395hp) allowed the 6-speed manual versions to go from rest to 62mph in just 4.6 seconds, with a claimed top speed of 180mph.
The 360 Spider was launched at the 2000 Geneva Motor Show, with stiffened sills, floorpan and revised windscreen frame to reintroduce lost rigidity, following the removal of the coupé’s solid roof. The rear bulkhead was also strengthened and a cross-brace added in front of the engine. Fairings behind the driver and passenger’s heads contain roll-over bars for additional safety. The engine is visible through a glass cover and the electrically-operated convertible roof disappears into a dedicated compartment, to be out of view when stowed.
The car:
This outstanding 360 Spider has covered just 20,500 warranted miles in the hands of its three owners, the last of whom held it in his tenure for 16 years. The car was in storage from 2016 to 2022, when it was comprehensively recommissioned by Maranello Egham who have maintained the car throughout its 22 years.
Resplendent in Argento Nürburgring, the car features a tan leather-trimmed interior, electric seats with Daytona-style inserts, embossed ‘Cavallino’ emblems on the headrests and dark blue stitching to match the convertible roof. Other extras include Challenge front grills, aluminium callipers and recessed enamel Scuderia wing shields.
The original set of unmarked 18-inch five-spoke alloys frame silver brake calipers and are shod with a brand new set of Bridgestone Potenzas. Currently fitted is a top-of-the-range Becker stereo with Sat Nav and iPod functionality and the original head unit also comes with the car.
Included in the sale are the original tool kit in a leather case, the official battery charger in a matching leather case, all original handbooks and the service booklet in the original leather Ferrari folder with Maglite torch; all documents, invoices, MOT tests; the Ferrari EEC Certificate of Conformity, original Ferrari stereo, the box and instructions for new Becker stereo, a modern secondary trickle charger and two keys with three fobs.
The most recent MOT test was on 16 July 2024 at 20,361 miles, which resulted in a first-time pass with no advisories. The most recent maintenance was in August 2023 at 20,005 miles and included a complete overhaul of the soft top roof mechanism at a total cost of £2,897.45. The most recent service was in May 2022 (at 19,956 miles) as part of the car’s recommissioning following storage. This comprised of an Annual 2 Service, while the cambelt, cambelt tensioners, hydraulic clutch block, both lower ball joints and covers and suspension springs were all replaced at the total cost of £7,992.75. The usual Ferrari sticky button issue with cars of this period has been dealt with through a mix of new and refurbished switches. The wheels were also refurbished last year.
Summary:
A great specification, totally original car with the desirable manual box and a sensible mileage – not so low that you can’t use the car, but low enough that it will retain its value.
