SUMMARY

A gorgeous, two-owner, low-mileage 996 Carrera 4, freshly serviced and ready to be a superb daily driver.

DESCRIPTION

Background:

The fifth generation of Porsche’s 911 model debuted in 1997, marking a sea-change for the company. Though visually similar to the outgoing 993, the new car had little in common with its forebears, barring the 911 nametag and the positioning of the engine.

The 996 was the very first 911 to sport a new chassis since the air-cooled original was launched way back in 1964. Not content with completely revising the car’s monocoque, Porsche also did the near-unthinkable and introduced the first water-cooled 911 engine range. The new 3.6-litre flat-six M96 power-unit produced 320PS (315hp) and propelled the Carrera 4 from rest to 100kmh (62mph) in a mere 5 seconds, with a top speed of 280kmh (174mph.)

Only the front suspension with the multi-link rear suspension and 6-speed gearbox introduced on the 993 were carried over, with an entirely new bodyshell and interior helping to underline the fact that this was a 911 for the new Millenium.

The car:

The first owner of this UK-spec 996 coupé paid over the list price for the privilege of picking up his new car straight from the Porsche factory. Specified with understated silver-grey coachwork and contrasting black leather interior, this Carrera 4 boasts Tiptronic S transmission and 18" Carrera alloys wheels, enhancing the subtly aggressive body shape. The distinctive ‘fried egg’ front lights sport extra-cost Litronic Xenon headlights.

The intimate cockpit features heated front seats, a top-tinted windscreen, PCM Satellite Navigation, PCM Telephone, PCM Handset and a CDC-4 CD changer linked to the BOSE sound system, with Alcantra headlining and folding rear seats.

Both previous owners have nurtured this 996 and it has covered just 67,500 miles, averaging a little over 3000 miles a year. The car comes with a full history with nine of its 11 services having been completed at Porsche main dealers and the last two by a Porsche specialist, including the intermediate service completed in May 2024. Both air conditioning condensers were replaced in 2020 and there are lots more bills for work carried out.

Summary:

This superb, unmolested 993 offers all the style and performance you’d expect from a 911, with an excellent low-mileage history. Throw in all-wheel drive and this is perhaps the perfect daily driver Porsche.
