SUMMARY
A gorgeous Jaguar XK8, freshly resprayed, with a history of being cossetted and nurtured. How can you resist this glamorous GT?
DESCRIPTION
Background:
Launched in 1996, Jaguar’s XK8 replaced the XJ-S, while capturing some of the svelte sexiness of the E-Type. Based on a heavily-revised XJ-S platform and clothed in a sophisticated new suit of clothes drawn by Fergus Pollock under Geoff Lawson, this was a Jaguar GT for the new Millennium.
The elegant newcomer – available as a 2-door coupé and a convertible - was powered by Jaguar’s new 4.0-litre 32-valve AJ-V8 engine and featured a version of the independent rear end developed from the XJ40, rightly lauded as one of the world’s finest-riding saloons.
With a handy 290hp under the driver’s right foot, performance was more than capable, the 0-62mph sprint being accomplished in 6.7 seconds (7.0 seconds for the convertible) with top speed limited to 156mph(154mph for the convertible). If looks weren’t enough, a cockpit that was long on traditional Jaguar feel – lots of leather and burr walnut – with a well-damped ride and excellent on-road composure all added to the appeal of the XK8.
The car:
This fine example of the XK8 Convertible looks at least a decade younger than its actual age, thanks to the timeless lines of the elegant bodywork and it has been maintained with no expense spared.
The coachwork is superb, this car having benefitted from a complete respray in February 2022. At the same time new sills were fitted and any signs of rust eradicated, meaning this XK8 should be good for another two decades of care-free motoring, without major attention.
Enthusiast-owned and always serviced by Jaguar dealers or marque specialists, everything about this car speaks of the care and attention that has been lavished on it. The roof has recently been re-proofed, and new Pirelli tyres have been fitted all round, further enhancing the car’s appeal.
The leather interior is in fine condition and the rest of the cabin boasts a host of original OEM features, such as the original SatNav with CD, an original-fitting Motorola telephone, a windbreak screen and a heated windscreen.
The car has covered roughly 81,000 miles, which equates to an average of a mere 890 per annum over the last 14 years and it has been winter-stored for the past few years. It has never been driven on E10 fuel and has passed all its recent MOTs without advisories. Supplied with two keys.
The personalised number plate (worth between £500-900) is included in the sale.
Summary:
Will summer ever arrive? When a convertible looks, drives and rides as well as this XK8, does it actually matter? The new owner will have a broad smile on their face, every time they drive it.
