SUMMARY
Cherished and sensitively modified Porsche 997 Carrera 2 with extensive history and rebuilt engine.
DESCRIPTION
Background:
Porsche launched the sixth generation of the 911 for the 2005 model year, based on the architecture of the out-going 996 but with a revised look for the 21st and benefitting from Century, courtesy of Grant Larson, most noticeable with a return to traditional oval headlights, replacing the ‘fried egg’ units of the 996 and Boxster.
The 997 offered further refinement of the 911 concept, with more power, upgraded interiors and further improvements to suspension and drivetrain – an evolution, rather than a revolution, in classic Porsche fashion.
The Carrera was offered with Porsche’s classic flat-six power unit, displacing 3.6 litres, producing 325PS (321hp) at 6,800rpm and 370Nm – enough to sprint from 0-62 in a mere 4.8 seconds, with a top speed of 180mph.
The car:
This unique 997 Carrera has been used, improved and cherished, as befits a true performance machine, having covered 97,205 miles and it certainly stands out from the crowd, with its distinctive Midnight Blue coachwork – a metallic and pearl finish which changes in different light – and GT3-inspired aerodynamics kit.
The 3.6-litre engine is mated to Porsche’s Tiptronic automatic transmission and has been truly future-proofed with a rebuild by specialists Hartech at 80,000 miles, to the tune of approx. £10,000, offering real peace of mind to the new owner.
The car rolls on 19-inch Lobster Claw rims, believed to be the lightest of all 997 wheels – lighter even than a GT3 wheel – filled with bright yellow brake calipers. Gen II facelift LED lights have been fitted, along with a sports suspension package, Porsche Stability Management and GT3 Cup-style exhausts. The overall effect is classy and understated, yet promising performance and driving enjoyment a-plenty.
In the cockpit a full black leather interior with extended leather package offers sumptuous comfort from which to enjoy the ride, nestled in the adjustable-heated seats. The instrument cluster features dials in black, while the PCM2 navigation system, telephone interface and CD changer are controlled from the multi-function steering wheel, all playing through the BOSE sound system.
This 2005 Model Year (54 plate) car comes with all original purchase documentation and two keys. Included in the full service history from a combination of Porsche Main Dealers and marque specialists is documentation from the engine rebuild. It is HPI clear and has a full MOT until April 2025 with no advisories. Viewing is welcomed and highly recommended. This car will be sold as seen.
Summary:
A distinctive and tastefully improved example of a classic Porsche, this 997 Carrera 2 has been used, enjoyed and lovingly cared for as a performance car should be and is ready for a new owner to cherish.
