Introduced in 2002, after some five years in development, the R230 Series SL Roadster was an engineering ‘tour de force’. Painstakingly modelled on a state-of-the-art supercomputer which enabled the designers to analyse every curve and line, it looked utterly sensational with an air of barely contained aggression that gave it huge road presence. Packed full of sophisticated electronic driver aids which made it immensely safe but still fun to drive, it was an instant success and is widely considered to be the best-looking Mercedes for many years. In late 2003, the striking SL55AMG was introduced. Seriously powerful and impressively fast, the 5.4-litre V8 was rated at 493bhp with a stump-pulling 520 lbs.ft of torque.

From 2004, the SL55AMG could be further enhanced by the addition of the £8,500 ‘F1’ Performance Pack (Code 030) offering a host of upgrades including a limited-slip differential, SL65 front bumper, SL65 19” split-rim alloys, bigger composite disc brakes, an uprated oil cooler, modified software for the ABC as modelled at the Nurburgring and the top-speed limiter was raised to 186mph.

This superb 2005 SL55 AMG F1 was UK-supplied in right-hand drive and was purchased by our vendor on 09/09/2014 having been enjoyed by four former keepers. It’s finished in Obsidian Metallic with 'Exclusive' Black/Anthracite leather (581A) and a Designo Alcantara roof lining.

The base list price of the Mercedes when new was £96,495 and £5,655 was added to this by an extensive list of options which included a Panoramic glass ‘Vario’ roof, Keyless Go, TV Tuner, Comfort Seats, Parktronic, Tyre Pressure Monitor, Telephone pre-wiring with hands-free, Linguatronic.

It has currently covered just 66,500 miles and has an excellent service and MOT history with the most recent service on 5/11/20 @ 66,175 miles, by Mercedes-Benz Specialists. That service included Mercedes-Benz 5W/30 Low Ash, Fully Synthetic Oil (MB Approved 229.5), a new rear battery, number plates and holders and a fresh MOT. Total cost £487.20

The previous year's' service on 21 October 2019, totalled £2,562.41 and included n/s/front shock absorber, front brake discs and pads, a wear sensor and a fresh MOT. The car is supplied with its M-B leather pouch containing manuals, service records, invoices etc. and both sets of keys.

This rare F1 presents really, really well, appearing almost unmarked and the whole car has patently been looked after. Ballistically quick, fabulous looks, Continent-covering pace yet as civilised in town as a Toyota Corolla, it’s no wonder that some ‘supercar’ owners tend to get a little upset.
