2006 Daimler Super Eight

Background:

The Daimler Super Eight is a luxury saloon introduced by Daimler - Jaguar’s prestige division - as the flagship model in its range. Launched in 2005, the X356 model was a facelifted version of the X350 XJ which had been first introduced in 2003 and was primarily aimed at the European and North American markets.

The Super Eight was a more exclusive version of the Jaguar XJ, featuring distinctive Daimler badging, an enhanced interior and additional luxury features. The Daimler was positioned to compete with other high-end luxury saloons such as the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and BMW 7 Series.

Under the bonnet nestled the 4.2-litre supercharged V8 from the Jaguar XJR which produced an extremely healthy 395bhp, allowing it to hurtle from 0-60 mph in around five seconds – supercar-bothering territory in a luxury executive four-door saloon.

The car featured an aluminium body, which reduced weight and improved fuel efficiency while maintaining strength and it also boasted advanced suspension systems for superior handling and comfort, reaching once more for the ‘best saloon in the world’ title that had belonged to the XJ range for so long.

The Super Eight featured an even more luxurious interior than its Jaguar cousins - as befits any car bearing the famous Daimler name - offering leather upholstery, Burr Walnut veneers, and rear-seat entertainment.

The car:

This handsome Super Eight is a recent import from Japan, where it was first delivered, guaranteeing the very highest standards of manufacturing fit and finish, as demanded by the Japanese. It is now fully UK-registered and MOT’d and is to full UK/EU specification, so there are no loadings to insurance.

The car has a full service history from its time in Japan which confirms that it had covered some 95,784 miles, which can be backed up service history and mileage verification certificate. The instrument cluster/speedo has been changed for an mph version and it now reads 67,344 miles. The Super Eight is fully ULEZ and CAZ compliant in the UK.

Among the features this Daimler boasts are an electric tilt and slide sunroof, chrome door mirrors, Xenon headlamps with headlamp power wash and double-glazed acoustic glass.

The sumptuous and pristine interior features a heated steering wheel and 3-stage heated electric memory front seats. The D-monogrammed seats, pedals and mirrors are all fully programmable with memory function to customise the driving experience. The radar active cruise control also features a speed limiter and there is a SatNav with touch-screen and an Alpine audio system. Also featured is four-zone climate control. The Daimler’s luxury is not confined to the front seats, indeed this was a model in which many UK Government Ministers were chauffeured. In the rear are individual electric-recline, heated seats with three-position memory function. There is a rear entertainment console, rear TV screens and picnic tables, along with rear door blinds and a rear screen blind for added privacy. There are sheepskin over rugs.

Superbly elegant and understated with its silver coachwork, this Super Eight sits superbly on 18" Daimler alloy wheels, shod with Michelin tyres all round and looks for all the world like a car that has covered 30,000 - 40,000 miles.
