2007 Porsche 911 '997' Carrera Cup Car

The Porsche Carrera Cup was founded in the UK in 2001 and has since been run annually, featuring factory built race cars that are all finished to the same specification, making it one of the most competitive, high profile 'one make' series in the world today.

The '997' version of the Porsche 911 GT3 was used by the Carrera Cup Championship from 2006 onwards. Costing £110,000 when new, it featured an improved package all round with over 400bhp now available, coupled to a Hollinger sequential 6 speed gearbox. The racing was close and the series blossomed both in the UK and Europe.

This particular car was supplied new in 2007 and used for just half the season before being acquired by a friend of Silverstone Auctions, Mark Hazell. Used sparingly in 08/09, it actually took part in just a handful of Carrera Cup races as keen amateur Mark was busy with hobbies and pursuits elsewhere. This led to Silverstone Auctions owner, Nick Whale, approaching Mark to buy the car to race with his son in the burgeoning GT Cup series. He bought this car because he knew it had always been professionally run by a top team, maintained to Porsche factory recommended guidelines (whereby all major components are 'lifed') and never crashed!

Since 2010 it has appeared in only a handful of GT Cup races every season, with Nick and Harry being on the class podium every time out and frequently finishing in the top 5 overall.

It is an extremely rapid and competitive car that still runs in standard Carrera Cup 'spec' and is maintained exactly to Porsche recommended standards by noted Midlands based 'In 2 Racing' (contact 01789 750567). The engine is rebuilt every 60 hours and the gearbox every 30 hours, with the last rebuild of both engine and gearbox taking place just 2 races ago at the beginning of the 2013 season (so jst 5 hours running since rebuild). At the same time new front discs, new clutch, a new 'Hans' racing harness and new gearbox control cables were also fitted.

In its latest outings the car won its class at Donington in April '13- finishing 5th overall, and came 3rd in class at Brands-Hatch GP in May '13. The car is 'wrapped' in blue which has preserved the original white paint well for the next owner.
