SUMMARY
A low-mileage roadster finished in a stunning colour combination.
DESCRIPTION
Background:
Morgan’s Plus 8 enjoyed a long and successful 36 year production life, from 1968 to 2004, when production halted because of the discontinuation of Rover’s venerable V8. It’s replacement – the Roadster – was all-but identical, save for swapping the V8 for a much more up to date 3-litre Ford Duratec V6, which produces similar power, though slightly less torque. The new power unit is slightly lighter than the old V8, which results in increased performance and better fuel economy. The arrival of the Ford Cyclone 3.7-litre 24-valve V6 upped power to 280bhp which – with a kerb weight of just 940kg – offered a 0-62 time of 5.5 seconds and a top speed of 140mph.
The chassis of the roadster remains the well known ladder frame, in galvanised steel and the body is still made in the time-honoured manner, with steel and aluminium over an ash frame. Unlike its predecessor, the Roadster is available in two and four-seater form.
The car:
This stunning Morgan V6 Roadster looks picture-perfect in rich Aston Martin Claret with a contrasting biscuit leather interior. With full width bumpers, contrasting black hood and tonneau and fitted luggage rack, it is the picture-perfect classic hand-assembled Morgan, sitting just right on its alloy wheels. The car was registered in 2009, Morgan’s centenary year and has the centenary plaque and leather Moto-Lita steering wheel with centenary engraved horn push, to mark the fact.
It is fitted with the 3-litre Duratec V6, mated to a manual 5-speed gearbox and the transmission has a limited-slip diff as standard. A factory replacement all-alloy radiator has been fitted behind the mesh grille.
The vehicle was originally specified and purchased by the vendor’s father, who delighted in the traditional look and modern driving experience of this superb Roadster, taking it on several Continental trips.
The Roadster was MOTd in April 2024 and recently serviced at Williams Morgan and will come with its valuable MOG registration. It has covered a little over 20,000 miles.
Summary:
What could be more British than an open-top Morgan, combining classic looks with modern performance and reliability? In its rich claret, this Roadster would make the perfect fine-weather companion.
