DESCRIPTION

The Background:

The icon. As much a part of British car culture as the Mini, the Jaguar E-Type or the Ford Escort - perhaps even more so. Though officially only known as a Defender from 1990, as a rebadge of the previous 90 and 110 models, it was instantly familiar given the evolutionary relationship with the Series Land Rovers that preceded them. To the layman, the different versions have almost become interchangeable, not least because each represents the utilitarian, unpretentious, rugged off-roader that made Land Rover famous.

The Defender itself evolved gradually over its quarter century on sale, gaining new Ford engines and the odd interior tweak, but perhaps the most significant change was nothing to do with the designers at Solihull, it was its gradual adoption by trendy metropolitan elites, declaring it as their carriage of choice and taking the Land Rover legend from the country into the city. It's now equally popular with both cattle herders and yoga instructors, a trend that is reflected in the latest models, as good up to their axles in clag as they are at carving through SW1.

The Car:

With just over 27,000 miles on the clock, this Defender started life as an XS model, of course sporting the 2.2 Puma engine mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. This example has seen minimal use and a recent service ensures it is in excellent mechanical condition. Its MOT history is exemplary, with every test passed without issue which is a testament to the care and attention provided by its three previous owners.

Inside, the vehicle has been enhanced with RECARO Cross Sportster (CS) sport front seats, providing exceptional comfort and support. The interior has been further upgraded with extended Nappa leather on the door panels, cubby box and steering wheel, all featuring a matching themed design. The cabin also includes Belgrave leather side panels, bespoke branding and comprehensive soundproofing, creating a luxurious and refined environment.

The suspension system has been completely upgraded with the Belgrave Bespoke ‘Supersport Plus Suspension Programme’, including sport shock absorbers, uprated springs, isolator rings, sport bushes, and anti-roll bars for both the front and rear. These enhancements ensure an outstanding driving experience both on and off the road.

Technology and entertainment features include a Jaguar Genuine Radio Classic Infotainment System with SatNav, Bluetooth telephone preparation and iPod connectivity. The upgraded speaker system provides superior audio quality, making every journey enjoyable.

Externally, the Defender has been fully colour-coded for a sleek, cohesive appearance. Lighting upgrades include TRUCK-LITE 7" LED headlights with daytime running lights and LED white/clear rear light lenses. Side vents, wing tops and side protection steps are finished in black, adding to its modern and dynamic aesthetic. Additional features include a MOMO sports steering wheel and XS specification enhancements, further elevating the vehicle’s appeal.

Summary:

This Defender 90 is a remarkable blend of classic charm and modern luxury. With its low mileage and high quality upgrades, it represents an exceptional opportunity to own a truly iconic vehicle. Whether navigating rugged terrain or cruising through the city, this Defender is ready to take on any adventure in style.
