2014 AK 427 Cobra

The AC Cobra needs little introduction, Carrol Shelby’s bright idea of shoe-horning a thumping Ford V8 into the svelte AC Ace spawned not only a capable racer – in both early 289 and later 427 form – but also an instant classic. Sadly for the aficionado, few were made in period and even 'Continuation' cars have been produced in mere handfuls over the years. So, what to do if you need brutal power, a stirring V8 soundtrack and an intravenous adrenalin shot? The answer came from the kit car industry, with an array of self-assembly machinery, amongst which the very best rival an original Cobra for excitement – and quite possibly exceed them for build quality.

The AK 427, from AK Sportscars of Peterborough, is one such and was introduced in 1990 due to the demand for a ‘quality’ Cobra replica that provided not only the iconic looks of the AC Cobra but also a standard of finish that was industry leading, designed with flexibility in mind with numerous components available dependent on client requirements.

This particular 427 has been completed to the very highest of standards, built around a Generation II Chassis with Jaguar running gear, professionally finished in Cerrion Silver with a classic Cobra interior in Bridge of Muir Caledonian Black Hide complemented by a dashboard full of Smiths Classic instruments.

Motivation is provided by an LS3 6.2-litre Corvette power unit mated to a Tremec 5-speed  gearbox providing endless potential when out on the open road. The attention to detail is exceptional and a credit to the craftsmen that have produced this head turning homage. With a recorded mileage at the time of viewing of just 1,527 miles, the car's condition, as you would expect, is outstanding with a fit and finish that is to factory standards with attention to detail wherever you look, exemplified by the stainless steel fixings fitted throughout, the correct style 18" wheels and of course the stainless steel side-pipes that any Cobra replica worth its salt should have in situ.
