DESCRIPTION
The Ford Mustang is synonymous with American muscle car culture, so naturally when the sixth generation (S550) was unveiled in December of 2013, it certainly caused a global stir. At first, it was offered with three power unit options; the new-to-Ford, 2.3-litre EcoBoost producing a little over 300bhp, a 3.7-litre V6 offering 300bhp, and of course the 5-litre V8 producing over 430bhp. Transmission options came in the form of a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic with steering wheel paddles. New to this sixth generation Mustang was the introduction of independent rear suspension transforming the car's handling and enabling it to at least have a go at competing with European competition. However, the big news was the fact that for the first time in the Mustang’s history, it was going to be built by the factory in both left and right-hand drive, opening it up to global markets.
This example started out life as a standard 2017 Ford Mustang 5.0L GT convertible however, it did not stay standard for very long. Our vendor wanted to build a real one-off statement car and decided to commission a Liberty Walk widebody custom kit. The build was entrusted to the skilled and reputable outfit ‘ColourKraft’ who are highly experienced with Liberty Walk custom packages and upon completion of the build the car was unveiled as the first convertible (S550) Mustang in the UK to have a Liberty Walk body kit. The customisation was not limited to the bodywork as all the suspension has been replaced and the Mustang is now fitted with a remote controlled air-ride set-up suspension. The air-ride suspension can be controlled via the cockpit remote, or even a mobile phone app - a must for any car show. In addition to the suspension change, it’s fitted with a bespoke exhaust system which becomes very apparent as soon as the car is started.
Finished in a gloss black all over with matte black details such as the iconic Mustang stripes, this car certainly has a menacing presence. The interior is finished in ivory leather with lots of attention to detail everywhere and even the gold centred split-rim alloys have the Liberty Walk logo machined into them. A real testament to their drive for individuality.
Today's car is in almost box-fresh condition showing just over 9,000 miles on the odometer and offering a real opportunity to own a unique version of an historically and globally loved muscle car that, although heavily modified cosmetically, is as usable as the standard road car on which it’s based. Not, perhaps, for the faint-hearted, but if you were faint-hearted, you probably wouldn’t have read this far.
