DESCRIPTION

Mike Hailwood was one of Britain's most talented and versatile sportsmen, Grand Prix driver, George Medal-Winner and TT Legend, taking 14 victories at the notorious island circuit and nine World Championships. After his (first) retirement from Motorcycle Racing, Mike transitioned to four wheels competing in World Sports Cars, Formula 2, Formula 5000 and F1 Grand Prix before a badly broken leg at the 1974 German Grand Prix put an end to his four-wheel career.

1970 was a good year for Mike's F5000 efforts with his Epstein-Cuthbert Racing, Lola-Chevrolet T190 making 14 starts and achieving two wins, two Poles and seven podiums. This attractive trophy was awarded at Silverstone in April by G.K.N. Castings for the fastest lap during the Silverstone round of the Guards European Formula 5000 Championship which was known as the Daily Express/GKN International Trophy. Mike won the race In addition to being credited with the 'Fastest Lap'.
