Exceptionally Rare 1934 Siamese Tiger Mascot. Prince Bira of Siam

A great rarity believed to be from Prince Bira’s Bentley. 12 copies were made during the late 1930s, all marked one to 12 with green glass eyes (the original had Emerald eyes). This example is not one of those later copies or numbered and has a clearly marked 'B. Bira' signature.

SUMMARY

DESCRIPTION

In good, original, unrestored condition with normal age patination all over the mascot and around the legs. Hollow cast chromed bronze. Sold with a copy of Princess Ceril Birabongse's book The Prince and I (which mentions it, on page 49, as being sculpted by Bira and mounted on his Bentley) plus three other books relating to Bira. It would be wonderful to establish its provenance as the 'original' but our vendor is unable to say, without doubt, that is the case. We encourage interested parties to form their own opinion. Measuring 16.5cm long.

For more detail regarding this rare mascot see page 43 of Kay and Springate's Automotive Mascots book. This important mascot was sculpted by Prince Birabongse whilst staying at his mother's house near Fontainbleau.
