A New ‘Lord of Silverstone’ and Four New Auction World Records for Iconic Auctioneers at This Year’s Classic Sale at The Silverstone Festival.

1998 Subaru Impreza STi 22B - Chassis #000/400 - Ex-Colin McRae. Sold for £480,000 a new auction record

The first sale for the newly rebranded Iconic Auctioneers was fantastic with four new auction world records set, a new ‘Lord of the Manor of Silverstone’ and a total sale value of £7 million .
Leading the auction records was the 1998 Subaru Impreza STi 22B - Chassis #000/400 - Ex-Colin McRae which sold for £480,000 - a new auction world record. This Subaru was delivered to the late Colin McRae MBE in November 1998 and is just one of three prototype 22Bs built. As a gesture of thanks for their services to Subaru over the years (winning the 1995 World Rally Championship, finishing 2nd in 1996 and 1997 and 3rd in 1998 and gaining the company their 3rd consecutive WRC Manufacturers Title), three prototype 22Bs were offered to three special people. One was offered to Prodrive’s David Lapworth, currently residing in the USA, one to Colin’s co-driver Nicky Grist, and this one, offered to Colin McRae himself. It was assumed that Subaru gifted the cars however Colin is quoted as saying he had to buy his, which “hurt as a Scotsman”.
Colin McRae was once quoted in a TV interview about the 22B as saying it is one of his favourite cars, whilst admitting "it gets you into bother" by virtue of its character. The mind boggles at what qualifies as 'bother' to a man of McRae's talents but anyone who has driven or been in a 22B will vouch for the sheer capabilities of the car, and its confidence inspiring nature to go faster and faster.

The Professionals 1980 Ford Capri 3.0 S, sold as a pair for £186,750.

There was considerable interest in the two Professionals Capris, which were offered as a pair and as one Lot in recognition of their cultural significance and historical importance. At the equivalent sale price of £93,375 each, this is a new auction world record for a road going Ford Capri, beating the auction houses own previous record set in 2019 of £68,625.
These two Capris which featured in the cult ITV show ‘The Professionals’ came to auction from a private collection as one single lot, providing a golden opportunity for Capri fans and fans of the show to own both of these iconic cars that are also coveted entertainment trophies.
Arwel Richards of Iconic Auctioneers, who consigned the cars comments: “Ford Capris are among the hottest modern-classic cars for collectors right now and when you add in the fact that these two Capris featured in the much-loved cult TV show we knew we were onto a winner with them.”
The car, driven by actor Lewis Collins' character William Bodie, featured in seven episodes in series two of the ITV show that aired from 1977 to 1983. At the hands of the ex-paratrooper, mercenary and SAS sergeant, the Strato Silver Capri was a firm favourite among fans of the show. The second Capri, OAR 576V was allocated to actor Martin Shaw who played the part of Ray Doyle, the car went on to feature in 10 episodes of the Series.
