Iconic Auctioneers Group Take Top Spot as UK Market Leaders for The Sale of Collectible Motor Cars.

Iconic Auctioneers Group announced today that it has regained the lead in the sale of classic cars at live auctions this year, a title they last held in 2021.

These results of £36 million worth of car sales for the year have been achieved thanks to a phenomenal run of auction world records, 18 in total, as well as the sale of cars with celebrity heritage - all of which have assisted the group to overtake the competition. The combined results of Iconic Auctioneers and its sister company Classic Car Auctions represents a seismic shift in this market as it places Iconic Auctioneers Group £2million clear of its nearest rival. Their position as UK market leaders has been verified by auction market analyst Richard Hudson Evans.

Rob Hubbard, Managing Director at Iconic Auctioneers Group, says: "Naturally we are delighted with this early Christmas present. It is a great tribute to the whole team who have worked so hard to make this market leadership position a reality. It comes after a number of strong years where we have steadily closed the gap on our competitors. The result is also due to strong marketing, a rebrand from Silverstone Auctions to Iconic Auctioneers and a vastly increased international reach thanks to our media profile. Today we have a presence on five continents. Our bidders are a truly global group. And our client service is in a class of its own."

Some of the auction world records which helped to secure the top spot for Iconic Auctioneers include the following cars.

Auction World Record 2000 TVR Cerbera Speed 12 - the only TVR-built road car of its kind – Sold for £601,500

Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 – sold for £596,250

This Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 (below) sold for £596,250, a new auction world record as a result of a bidding war between an online bidder in Dubai and one in the UK.

The previous world record figure paid for a Ford Sierra Cosworth at auction was £132,750 last year. The winning bid for this car - registration 'E378 TKN' - is 30 times its 1987 original showroom price of £19,950, and over 4 times the previous record. The auction house described it as 'perhaps the finest example of the rare Sierra Cosworth RS500 to survive today’.

1998 Subaru Impreza STi 22B - Ex-Colin McRae sold for £480,000 a new auction world record.

Arguably the most desirable 22B ever, this Subaru was delivered to the late Colin McRae MBE in November 1998, and is one of three prototype 22Bs built. Presented in stunning condition to the Classic Sale at the Silverstone Festival this road-going Subaru was on the open market for the first time and sold for sold for £480,000.

HM Queen Elizabeth’s 2004 Range Rover entered the auction world record books at £132,750.

The very same car was sold back in July of this year for just £33,000 with only circumstantial evidence that it was connected to her Late Majesty, however some careful research unearthed video footage of HM Queen Elizabeth driving this particular Range Rover with the number plate clearly visible, ending earlier assumptions and confirming its heritage saw the car tripling its previous sold price when it came to auction at the NEC Classic Motor Show in November.

Another vehicle with Royal Heritage was HRH Duke of Edinburgh’s Land Rover 110 which received much pre-sale publicity around the world and sold for £123,750 at the Race Retro Sale in February 2023, setting another auction world record.

1966 Elan S3 Drophead Coupé 'Emma Peel of The Avengers' made £164,250.

The Emma Peel Avengers Lotus Elan from a private Lotus Collection made £164,250, setting another new auction world record at the Race Retro Sale at Stoneleigh. After filming Series 5 and 6 of the Avengers, the Television Company gave this super little S3 Drophead to Diana Rigg who played Emma Peel in 51 episodes of the long-running British TV series.
