Fast Fords, Celebrity Cars & Royal Land Rover Lead the Pack

Lot 508 Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 – sold for £596,250

A trio of fast Fords made the running at the Silverstone Auctions sale on Saturday. This Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 (above) sold for £596,250, a new world record as a result of a bidding war between an online bidder in Dubai and one in the UK.

The previous world record figure paid for a Ford Sierra Cosworth at auction was £132,750 last year. The winning bid for this car - registration 'E378 TKN' - is 30 times its 1987 original showroom price of £19,950, and over 4 times the previous record. The auction house described it as 'perhaps the finest example of the rare Sierra Cosworth RS500 to survive today’.

A Ford Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth 4x4 made £109,125, smashing its £50,000 estimate to set a new world record and a Ford GT beat its estimate to sell for £265,500.

HRH Duke Edinburgh Land Rover 110 which received much pre-sale publicity around the world, sold for £123,750, setting another world record

Previously used by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh and like all the Duke's Land Rovers it was built to his individual specification and this example is no exception. Estimated at £50,000 - £70,000.
Accompanying the car is a good history file containing correspondence from George Hassall - Director, Royal and Diplomatic Affairs at Jaguar Land Rover to David Key, Head Chauffeur to HRH The Duke of Edinburgh which relates to its initial use by The Duke, along with its book pack, service book, MOTs and service receipts. Whilst in the Duke’s possession, it's believed to have been assigned his personal registration, OXR 2.
The very special Defender 110 County on offer was a low mileage, 15,623 (at the time of cataloguing), low owner example presenting in truly fantastic condition. Combined with the fact that this very car was specified and first used by the late HRH The Duke of Edinburgh makes this a unique opportunity.

Rowan Atkinsons Delta Integrale

Rowan Atkinson’s 1993 Lancia HF Integrale EVO II £87,750

Rowan Atkinsons Lancia exceeded its guide price making £87,750. This superb example of the Evoluzione II in a very rare colour with low mileage is the personal car of actor, comedian, collector and race driver Rowan Atkinson of Black Adder and Mr Bean fame. It was estimated to sell for £65,000 - £75,000.
The car had covered just over 87,000km when, back in May 2021, it was purchased by well-known comedian, actor and petrol head, Rowan Atkinson CBE. He has enjoyed many happy hours in the car, although the total mileage still remains below 90,000km, and the history file confirms recent money well spent on keeping the little Lancia in such fabulous condition.
