The Ancient Title ‘Lord of The Manor of Silverstone’ for Sale with Iconic Auctioneers on August 26th

In a rare and happy coincidence Iconic Auctioneers will be selling the ancient title ‘Lord of the Manor of Silverstone’ at the Silverstone Festival Sale on August 26th.
If you’re not born into aristocracy, it’s unlikely that you’ll ever get the chance to truly experience what it feels like to have an official title and buying a traditional ‘Lord’ title for most people is typically a long and near-impossible process. But not with this opportunity.

As ‘Lord of the Manor of Silverstone’ the winning bidder will genuinely be entitled to name themself as Lord on their passport, bank cards etc. With the title comes certain associated rights like being able to ‘hold court’, appoint a Bailiff and ale taster!
Rob Hubbard, Managing Director of Iconic Auctioneers says: “It is certainly the oldest and most historic item we have ever sold. It is worth noting that in 1996 the 9th Earl Spencer sold his vestigial interest in Wimbledon, the title of Lord of the Manor of Wimbledon, to a buyer from Brazil for £171,000. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to buy a title that will no doubt stay in a family for many years to come.”
For visitors to the Silverstone Circuit, it might be worth reminding themselves that if they win this title at auction, the next time they visit the circuit it could be as Lord of the Manor of Silverstone.

The title is being sold with all its Manorial Rights and Privileges and accompanying historic bound Court Rolls from 1763 to 1936 and maps. Preceding Court Rolls dating back to 1427 are in the Northamptonshire Records Office. In addition is the supporting documentation, with maps deeds and manuscript transfers, which are an almost unique addition to any Manorial sale. The Title with its land, as detailed in the maps, is registered with the Land Registry under Title number NN238761.

The Manor of Silverstone or Silston as the village was originally known, had an active Manorial Court and records exist from Saxon times.
