Three Records Smashed at First Silverstone Auctions Motorcycle Sale of The Year

1994 Ducati 888 Corse 926cc - £47,250

The first major motorcycle auction for the year took place this weekend at the MCN London Motorcycle Show Sale, at ExCeL, London. 149 bikes went under the hammer with Silverstone Auctions. Everything from ex-race bikes with celebrity ownership, a brace of Bond bikes and a huge array of rare and exciting Ducatis. The sale achieved an impressive 82% sale rate and total sales of £927,000.
Record sale highlights include:
A 1994 Ducati 888 Corse 926cc, Lot 180, which was one of only 26 built and had been in the vendor’s collection for over 20 years, made £47,250 – which is a new World auction record.

1982 Kawasaki Z1000 J2 998cc - £16,875

Lot 125 a 1982 Kawasaki Z1000 J2 998cc which won the best 1980s Bike at the 2022 Stafford Bike Show last year sold for £16,875. This model has never previously sold for more the £10,000k in the UK, so a definite UK auction record by some margin.

1995 Ducati Senna 1 916cc - £38,250

But the bike that really got the bids racing was the time warp 1995 Ducati 916 Senna 1 916cc. Of all the Senna badged Ducatis, the 916 Senna 1 is the most collectable. This particular motorcycle showing only 519 miles hardly surprisingly sold for a new auction world record of £38,250. It was part of a private collection and stored indoors for the last few years. Originally imported from Italy it came to auction with all its Italian registration papers and current NOVA as well as the original manuals and marketing materials.

Mark Bryan, Silverstone Auctions motorcycle specialist said “I am delighted with how the auction went, it was not only our first motorcycle auction of the year, but also the UK season opener. The show itself was really busy which brought a great buzz to the saleroom and with 50% of the bidders in the room, 29% online and the remainder on the phone, there was some fierce competition for some of lots. It’s a true testament to the confidence in the market for buying, collecting and investing in motorcycle heritage”

Continuing with this run of success Silverstone Auctions are now inviting entries for their next sale at the Devitt MCN Festival of Motorcycling Sale at the East of England Arena, Peterborough 13 & 14 May. There are also a further two Silverstone Auctions Motorcycle sales later in the year; one at Shuttleworth, Bedfordshire, SG18 9EA , 29 & 30 July and the last at the NEC Classic Motor Show 11 & 12 November. Entries can be made online at www.silverstoneauctions.com/sell where you can also request a free valuation.
