SUMMARY

A charming Morris Eight Barn Find with great potential, from long term ownership and just one previous keeper. Offered without reserve.

DESCRIPTION

Background:

The Series I Morris Eight made its debut in 1935 as a direct competitor to Ford’s popular Model Y. Distinguished by its superior equipment, the Morris featured electric windscreen wipers, synchromesh on the top two gearbox ratios, and Lockheed hydraulic brakes - advanced features for its time. Powered by a 918cc side-valve engine producing 23.5 bhp, it was offered in five different body styles: two- and four-door saloons, cabriolet, tourer and van. In total 164,102 examples of the Series I were produced.

The Car:

First registered in 1937, this particular car was acquired by its late owner with the intention of restoring the vehicle around 1970, having been sourced from the original owner - a Suffolk farmer who had stored it in a barn for many years after use on the farm. Following the purchase, a sympathetic restoration was soon undertaken, including a full respray and exterior rust-proofing. Still finished in its original black-over-blue colour scheme, the car now shows signs of age and would benefit from some cosmetic attention. It sits on wire-spoke wheels with chrome centres, and remarkably, the tyres still hold air.

The car comes with original features such as a Pytchley sliding sunroof, opening windscreen, and a leather interior. The cabin was retrimmed in blue leather with matching carpets and door cards, complemented by a tan cloth headlining.

Mechanically, it is fitted with a reconditioned 885cc engine, complete with a starting handle. While the engine remains intact and turns over, it does not currently run.

The car was enjoyed regularly until the owner’s health declined, leading to their passing in 2013. Since then, it has remained with the family, though it is now time for a new enthusiast to take on the project. A full restoration is likely required, but once complete, this classic Morris Eight could offer many more years of enjoyment. With classic pre-war styling and a rich history, it represents an exciting opportunity for restoration.

Included with the vehicle are the original buff logbook and a current V5C registration document in the owner's name. While much of the original paperwork has been misplaced over the years, the essentials remain, with the added benefit of some spare parts too.
