SUMMARY
A running summer project which can be enjoyed and used, showing just 29,000 miles.
DESCRIPTION
Background
The Singer Gazelle name has been applied to two generations of motor cars from the British manufacturer, Singer. It was positioned between the basic Hillman range and the more sporting Sunbeam versions. Introduced in 1956, the Gazelle underwent several iterations, with the Gazelle VI, introduced in 1965, being the last of the 'Audax' Gazelles.
The Car
First registered in 1966, this is one of 14,842 Mk VI cars to leave the Coventry production line. Powered by a 1,725cc engine, coupled with a manual gearbox.
Finished in Silver Moss with black details, a period Metallic Green colour suits the vehicle. The paintwork is believed to have been blown over in the mid 1990s but has now developed a flat finish with the charm and character of a patina, reflecting the car’s age. However, work would be needed to take this to the next level, with rust starting to come through in some areas. Sitting on original 13" steel wheels, wrapped in 'Motorway' branded tyres from the mid 1990s which, although showing a reasonably healthy amount of tread, have cracking throughout.
Inside, it would appear that the interior is in good condition. Finished in green vinyl, the seats are tear and rip-free, with minimal signs of wear. The door cards also present well, showing only minor signs of ageing and the headlining looks to have been recently replaced and is in good condition. The wood veneer dashboard does have some lacquer peel and is showing signs of age, though the dials are reported to all be working correctly. Carpeted throughout, the mats are worn through in places, so a new set could be the finishing touch to bring the interior to a very good condition.
Paperwork supplied with the vehicle includes previous MOT certificates dating back to the 1980s and 1990s, along with original sales brochures and specifications and most impressively, the original bill of sale showing a total amount of £761.71. There is of course a current V5C to accompany the car.
