SUMMARY

A very rare and original Range Rover G4 Challenge in outstanding condition, ready to be used and enjoyed by its next custodian.

DESCRIPTION

Background:

The third generation Range Rover - the L322 - replaced the P38A in 2001. The first of its kind to be built on a monocoque chassis, the L322 moved the marque further towards full-blown luxury, whilst managing to retain the off-road prowess that lies at the heart of the Land Rover badge.

Engine outputs varied from the BMW engine’s 184bhp all the way to the supercharged Jaguar engine’s 400bhp. The 4.4-litre petrol BMW V8, chosen for the G4 Challenge cars, develops 282bhp and 325lb/ft of torque, enough to propel the Range Rover to a top speed of 130mph after passing 62mph in just nine seconds - not bad for a vehicle that weighs 2.57 tonnes.

The Land Rover G4 Challenge is a global adventure competition and - as the successor to the Camel Trophy - it has off-road driving at its core.

In 2003, the first Land Rover G4 Challenge launched with 16 participating nations and traversed the US, South Africa and Australia over the course of 28 days. The Range Rover was used in Stage 3 of the 2003 Challenge, in Australia, starting in Roebourne and ending in the Wallai Downs.

The car:

Only 30 G4 Challenges were built, with two being press cars, making this a very rare and desirable specification of the ever-popular Range Rover L322. Various Land Rover models took part in the event, but the Range Rovers were built for the 2003 G4 Stage 3 event in Australia, all being finished In Tangier Orange with a black leather interior.

This G4 has been well kept and only used on dry days for going to events and shows, meaning that the car has been kept as original as possible, with its original roof rack, genuine pressed G4 plates front and rear, Warn spotlights, the original decals, light guards and dealer-fitted nudge bar.

Various private plates have been fitted over the last 22 years, but it’s now on the all-important ‘BT52’ registration – the numbers which where consigned to most of the Range Rovers to be used in the Challenge, straight from the factory in Solihull.

The car has covered just 88,000 miles in its 22 years and it has done virtually none since its last MOT in August 2024. A well cared-for example ready to be used for more exciting adventures.
